The Stena Jutlandica is a Swedish RoPax ferry operated by the Stena Line .

history

The ship was delivered in March 1996 as Stena Jutlandica from the Van der Giessen-De Noord shipyard . For a short time after delivery until August 1996, the ship sailed as Stena Jutlandica III . The ship is used between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn .

On January 23, 1998, the ferry collided with the tanker Brevik near Gothenburg . On July 19, 2015, she also collided with the tanker Ternvind near Gothenburg .

The Stena Jutlandica is the first of two similar ships built by Van der Giessen de Noord. The second ship, the Isle of Inishmore , connects the Welsh Pembroke with the Irish Rosslare Harbor .

Innovations

Many innovative environmental projects are being pursued as part of the Stena energy saving program, including tests with wind turbines from 2011 to 2012 . For this purpose, two wind turbines were installed on the foredeck of the Stena Jutlandica on 4 m high masts that drive 4 kW generators . According to Stena, they should generate around 23,000 kWh per year. The electricity was used to supply the lights on the ship's car deck.

E-storage operation with accumulators has been tested at Stena Jutlandica since 2018 in order to gain practical experience for the “Stena Electrica” project.
