Reception and reviews

The piano manufacturer Schröder organized a series of symphonic music concerts in Saint Petersburg. In the third concert in 1907 Abbakumow stepped in for Ernst Kunwald as a conductor. The program included Liszt's Les Preludes , Kalinnikov's Symphony No. 1 in G minor. Furthermore, a piano concerto by Saint-Saëns and symphonic variations by Boëllmann were performed with pianist Gerardy . In the second quarterly volume of the illustrated half-yearly publication Die Musik von 1906/1907 published by Bernhard Schuster in Leipzig there is a criticism of this concert: S. Abbakumow is described as a graduate of the local conservatory and later student of Nikisch . He owed a lot to the demanding program and will hardly have any doubts about his failure.
