Stepan Kryschaniwskyi
Stepan Andriyovych Kryschaniwskyj ( Ukrainian Степан Андрійович Крижанівський , Russian Степан Андреевич Крыжановский Stepan Andreyevich Krizhanovsky * December 26, 1910 . Jul / 8. January 1911 greg. In Novyi Buh , Kherson Gubernia , Russian Empire ; † 17th July 2002 in Kiev , Ukraine ) was a Ukrainian-Soviet poet, translator, literary scholar, and folklorist.
Life
Stepan Kryschaniwskyj had been a member of the Writers' Union of Ukraine since 1934 and graduated from Kharkiv University in 1940 . After graduation, he moved to Kiev, where he got a job at the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . Between 1941 and 1945 he took part in the Great Patriotic War as a soldier in the Red Army , most recently in the rank of major . In 1949 he returned to the Taras Shevchenko Institute for Literature and remained loyal to the institute in leading positions until 1987. In 1962 he became a doctor of philology and in 1963 a professor.
Kryschaniwskyj created a number of works on literary theory and literary history as well as the work of Ukrainian authors, translated works by Alexander Pushkin , Maxim Gorky , Janka Kupala , Nikolai Nekrasov and Vladimir Mayakovsky into Ukrainian, was the author of several collections of poetry and one of the authors of the two-volume “History of Ukrainian Literature ”(1954–1957). Kryschaniwskyj wrote the memoirs of the authors of the "executed rebirth" Majk Johansen and Valerjan Polishchuk . Some of his poems were set to music by composers such as Platon Majboroda and Pylyp Kosyzkyj .
Stepan Kryschaniwskyj was the father of the writer, humorist and satirist Andrij Kryschaniwskyj ( Андрій Степанович Крижанівський ; 1936–1989). He died at the age of 91 in Kiev and was buried there in the Baikowe cemetery . His memoir was published in 2002.
