Stephan Kirste (born November 12, 1962 in Oldenburg ) is a German legal scholar . Kirste holds a chair for legal and social philosophy at the University of Salzburg and is President of the German Section of the International Association for Legal and Social Philosophy .

Career

After graduating from high school, Kirste studied law, modern and contemporary history and philosophy at the Universities of Regensburg and Freiburg from 1982 to 1990 . In 1994 he passed his second state law examination at the State Judicial Examination Office in Stuttgart . In 1997 he received his doctorate with a thesis on "The Temporality of Positive Law and the Historicity of Legal Consciousness" at the Law Faculty of the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. From 1997 to 2004 Kirste was initially a research assistant and from 1998 a research assistant at the Law Department of the University of Heidelberg at the chair of Winfried Brugger . In 2004 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on "Theory of the corporation under public law - aspects of administrative history, organizational theory and administrative organization law aspects". In 2009 Kirste accepted a professorship for public law , European law and legal philosophy at the German-speaking Andrássy University in Budapest . There he was dean of the Faculty of Comparative Politics and Law from 2009 to 2011 . On March 1, 2012, he was offered a professorship for legal and social philosophy at the University of Salzburg.

Kirste is a co-founder of the working group History of Ideas in the German Section of the International Association for Legal and Social Philosophy. V., as well as president of this section since 2010. He is also co-editor of the encyclopedia on the philosophy of law.

Research priorities

Kirste's main research interests are in the field of legal philosophy, in particular the history of ideas in legal philosophy, constitutional theory with the comparative constitution, and constitutional and administrative law with its references to European law. Subject areas are for example: law and time; Human rights; Participation.
