Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla

Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla (born January 10, 1964 in Ido , Eastern Equatoria Region , Sudan ) is a South Sudanese clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Juba .

Life

Stephen Ameyu received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Torit on April 21, 1991 . After pastoral work in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum , he was studying for a doctorate at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome from 1993 to 1997 . His dissertation is entitled Towards Religious Dialogue and Reconciliation in Sudan . Ameyu then taught at the seminary of Juba, the capital of South Sudan, and was ultimately also its dean. Since 2013 he has also worked in the administration of the Catholic University of South Sudan .

On January 3, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Torit after this diocese had remained vacant for more than five years since the death of Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek in 2013. The Archbishop of Juba , Paulino Lukudu Loro MCCI , donated him episcopal ordination on March 3rd of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Khartoum , Michael Didi Adgum Mangoria , and the Bishop of Yei , Erkolano Lodu Tombe . That same year, on December 12, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Juba. The inauguration took place on March 22 of the following year.
