Stephen Elliott (* 27. November 1918 in New York City as Elliott Pershing Stitzel ; † 21st May 2005 in Woodland Hills , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Stephen Elliott began his stage career in 1940 in his native New York at the Neighborhood Playhouse . After military service, he made his debut on the prestigious Broadway in Shakespeare's Storm in 1945 . For his stage work he received a Drama Desk Award in 1969 and was nominated for a Tony Award in 1967 .

Although Elliott found work in film and television at an early age, it was only at an advanced age that he gained national fame. Here, often, he played negative and authoritarian character as about as shady oil magnate in Cutter's Way - No Mercy alongside Jeff Bridges and an arrogant millionaire Burt Johnson the opponent by Dudley Moore in the Oscar -prämierten comedy Arthur - No child of sadness and in the sequel Arthur 2 - On the Rocks .

In addition, Elliott took on numerous guest roles in television series and soap operas . So he played Douglas Channing , the first husband of Angela Gioberti Channing ( Jane Wyman ), in Falcon Crest , Scotty Demarest for four years in Dallas (1980, 1984-1985 and 1987) and between 1994 and 1999 the recurring role of the judge Harold Aldrich in the Chicago Hope hospital series .

In his first marriage, Elliott was married to the stage actress Nancy Chase, with whom he had a daughter and a son. From 1980 until his death he was married to actress Alice Hirson .
