Steve Courtley

Steve Courtley is an Australian special effects artist .

Life

Courtley began his film career in 1980 as a member of the film staff . In 1981 he was responsible for special effects for the first time in Peter Weir's adventure film Gallipoli with Mel Gibson . Two more films with Mel Gibson followed, parts 2 and 3 from the Mad Max trilogy. Courtley worked for a long time mainly in Australia, with the ebb of the international success of Australian film productions at the beginning of the 1990s, he began to work increasingly in US productions. At the 2000 Academy Awards , along with John Gaeta , Janek Sirrs and Jon Thum, he won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects for Matrix . In the same year they also won a British Academy Film Award in the category Best Visual Effects for this film . He was subsequently also involved in the two sequels, Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions . After the production of the last film in the Matrix trilogy, Courtley did not work any more in the film business.
