Stephen James "Steve" Doocy (born October 19, 1956 in Algona , Iowa ) is an American television presenter and journalist . He was best known as the co-host of the Fox and Friends breakfast magazine on the Fox News cable channel .

Life and work

Steve Doocy was born in Algona, Iowa, in 1956. He spent his youth in Abilene , Kansas , where he attended schools in Russell , Salina and Industry . This was followed by the visit of the Junior High School in Wakefield and the High School in Clay Center . He then studied at the University of Kansas at Lawrence , which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism .

As a journalist, Doocy finally made the leap to television: on NBC he occasionally presented the programs Wake Up America and House Party with Steve Doocy as well as the children's program Not Just News . He then worked for six years as a reporter for the WRC radio station and for NBC. Doocy temporarily hosted the morning news for CBS on WCBS-TV in New York City .

Since 1996 Doocy has been alongside Brian Kilmeade and until 2013 Gretchen Carlson one of several permanent co-presenters of the Fox and Friends program on the Fox News cable news channel . The show, which runs between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time, has been the most popular information show on US breakfast television for several years. In terms of content, it offers a mixture of contributions taken from the areas of "Politics and Society", Sport and "Entertainment, Celebrities and Obscure". The content is presented in clips as well as conversations between the moderators and guests in the studio or by remote control.

Like most Fox News presenters, Doocy is considered extremely conservative. Critics often accuse him and his co-presenters doing a biased coverage and commentary on the days events before that places usually exponents of conservative Republican viewpoints in a positive light while the representatives of "liberal" views and especially the Democratic Party most likely represent negative. This fact has also made Doocy and his colleagues frequent targets of television comedians such as Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, as well as satirical blogs and columns in the past .

Doocy has published two books to date that have made it onto the New York Times bestseller list : The Mr. and Mrs. Happy Handbook is dedicated to marriage and family, while Tales from the Dad Side is dedicated to fatherhood.

Doocy, an avowed Catholic, lives privately in Wyckoff ( New Jersey ) with his wife Kathy Gerrity and their three children Peter, Mary and Sally .
