history

In 1930, the Graz section of the Austrian Alpine Club acquired the Murhütte in the upper Murtal, but it was destroyed by an avalanche in 1951. As a replacement, the section leased a hut around 200 m higher from 1958, which was called the Stickler hut after its peasant owner . On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Graz Section, the hut was acquired in 1969.

Driveway

Up the Mur, the road becomes narrow about 6.5 km before the Sticklerhütte from the Arsenhaus inn (also: Arsenhütte) and is subject to a toll for motor vehicles. The last public parking lot in front of it is a few kilometers out of the valley.

The journey from the Arsenhaus is about 4 km further with a private car to the right confluence of the Moritzenbach. There is a parking lot in front of the barrier here.

The last 2.5 km path to the Sticklerhütte is a stony and moderately steep goods path, which can be easily negotiated and driven on by bike for athletes with little luggage. The Sticklerhütte offers a charging station for e-bikes. The supply road ends 200 m after the Sticklerhütte.

The other gently rising footpath about 3 km further to the source of the Mur runs over trails on alpine meadows 2 km further to the source of the Mur and should only be walked. Slightly below the source of the Mur, the Mur is only at one point between blocks of stone sufficiently wide and deep to be able to submerge the whole body in the cold water.
