Stigma was a German alternative rock band from Düsseldorf , which was founded around singer Marcus Modwozinski in 1997 in Hilden .

history

Srdjan Mrdjanov (guitar), Tim Schulte (bass), Sven Hansen (drums) met in 1997 at the Helmholtz-Gymnasium Hilden and founded the band Stigma together with singer Marcus Modwozinski. They recorded their first CD, Take a Look Inside , in 1998 in Tom Albrecht's homebase studio in Gruiten . With Tief in Dir was the first song with German lyrics .

In the summer of 2002, Stigma recorded the first half of their debut album Stigma s / t in the Spacelab studio and shortly afterwards met Wolfgang Rohde , the ex-drummer of the band Die Toten Hosen , who took them to his Rock-am-Turm-Festival in Meerbusch invited. Shortly afterwards he offered the band his support and a publishing deal.

In 2002, Stigma won the Diebels Contest, where they played on the main stage at the Bizarre Festival in Weeze.

2003 followed a demo contract with East West Records ( Warner Music Group ), through which the band was able to record another five German-language songs in the studio. It did not end in a collaboration, but the new recordings provided the band with enough material to release a complete CD with twelve tracks . This happened in April 2003 in self-distribution under the name Stigma s / t , which received many good reviews. The first edition of 500 copies was sold within less than a year.

Many concerts followed throughout Germany and abroad, where Stigma u. a. with Incubus , Such a Surge , Donots , Puddle of Mudd , Die Toten Hosen and Emil Bulls were on stage.

In 2004 the band signed a record deal with the then new record label Goldene Zeiten , which Wolfgang Rhode had founded. On November 2, 2004, the album Ewig im Moment was released with 14 German-language songs, which was distributed throughout Germany.

A music video was shot in 2005 with director Aleksander Bach for the song Katharsis on the album . Katharsis was used worldwide by the Goethe-Institut to convey the German language .

In 2005 Stigma was on tour with her new album and played with Rock am Ring and Rock im Park , among others . At the beginning of 2006, Stigma played an unplugged concert at the UFA-Palast cinema in Düsseldorf . The Live & Unplugged CD was recorded there.

Her third studio album, Komawunderland , was released on April 25, 2008 and was recorded in December 2007 with producer Marius Gabriel Bucur at the Hansahaus Studios in Bonn . In November 2008, after playing many concerts together for eleven years, Stigma decided to take a six-month break. Since April 2009 they could be seen live again and represented on the “Machmalauter” tour of the Toten Hosen.

In 2011 the band decided to split up.
