The Strobnitz (Czech Stropnice ) is a right tributary of the Maltsch ( Malše ) in Austria and the Czech Republic .

It rises in the Freiwald of the south slope Vysoká (Hochwald, 1034 m) in 780 m above sea level. M. on the Herzfeld near Lauterbach near the Czech border. It flows to the northeast and after a good kilometer into Czech territory. There are the places Šejby (Scheiben), Dlouhá Stropnice (Langstrobnitz), Horní Stropnice (Strobnitz) and Humenice (Maierhof), where the river is dammed in a small dam. There it leaves the Gratzener Bergland and forms a wide valley with numerous ponds.

The closest places on the river are Údolí (Niederthal), Nové Hrady (Gratzen), Štiptoň (Winau), Byňov (Böhmdorf) and Jakule , where the river turns to the northwest. Via Petříkov (Petersin), past Třebeč (Triebsch), Dvorec (Wurzen), Borovany (Forbes), Ostrolovský Újezd , Veselka, Jedovary, Řevňovice, Komařice and Pašinovice , the Stropnice meanders through a hilly landscape to the west after 54 km Dolní Stropnice (Stropnitz) at 410 m above sea level. M. flows into the Maltsch. Its catchment area is 400.4 km².

The Kaiser Franz Joseph Railway from Pilsen to Vienna , built in 1869, was laid out between Borovany and Jakule in the Strobnitz valley. Until 1948 the river in the Czech part formed the border between the Okres České Budějovice and the Okres Třeboň .
