The Struth nature reserve in the Rhein-Hunsrück district is an 871 hectare site that is one of the largest nature reserves in Rhineland-Palatinate . The Struth comprises southwestern parts of the Perscheid district and northwestern parts of the Wiebelsheim district. In the south of the nature reserve there is the Hunsrück wildlife reserve . The communities of Perscheid and Wiebelsheim are part of the Sankt Goar-Oberwesel community .

The area, the use of which can be dated back to the Celtic times through burial mounds, is made up of deciduous and coniferous forests, which are criss-crossed with extensive wet meadows and smaller heather areas. The wet areas are made up of near-natural spring streams, ponds and pools, the number of which form a biotope mosaic. Numerous endangered animal and plant species find an ideal habitat in the Struth, which is made possible by the protected, naturally formed wetland and broken forest areas. In particular, the Bechstein's bat , which are under species protection , and the edible beetle are listed in the Natura 2000 FFH area profile .

By the company juwi permission for the building of two was on December 16, 2013 wind turbines of the type Vestas V applied in the southeastern district Wiebelsheim 126th The planned location of the wind turbines is directly on the north-western border of the nature reserve.

The approval process has not yet been completed. There are strong concerns and objections to the two wind turbines. Their construction and commissioning could, on the one hand, violate building law guidelines and, on the other hand, trigger negative impacts on cultural and nature conservation aspects. In addition to contradicting interpretations of the minimum distance to be observed from residential areas, there are also controversial points of view between supporters and opponents of the project with regard to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site , the monuments in the area concerned and the possible effects on nature conservation and species protection.
