The Verbandsgemeinde Sankt Goar-Oberwesel was an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional authority in the Rhein-Hunsrück district in Rhineland-Palatinate . The municipality of the association included the towns of Oberwesel and Sankt Goar as well as six independent local communities , the administrative seat was in the town of Oberwesel. The administrative area of the Verbandsgemeinde was on the left bank of the Rhine in the Middle Rhine Valley World Heritage Site .

history
The Verbandsgemeinde was re-established in 1972 as part of the Rhineland-Palatinate functional and territorial reform at the time . On January 1, 2020, the Sankt Goar-Oberwesel community merged with the Emmelshausen community to form the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein community .

Association municipal council
Due to the merger of the municipalities of Emmelshausen and Sankt Goar-Oberwesel, a new structure was already elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 (see: Result ). The term of office of the previous community councils was extended by state law to December 31, 2019. Last was the local council Sankt Goar-Oberwesel from 24 honorary council members, who in the local elections on May 25, 2014 in a personalized proportional representation were elected, and the full-time mayor as chairman.

mayor
The full-time mayor was Thomas Bungert (CDU). In the direct election on September 25, 2016, he was re-elected for eight years with 89.58% of the vote. However, because of the merger of the two municipalities of Emmelshausen and Sankt Goar-Oberwesel by a state law, Bungert's term of office ended prematurely on December 31, 2019.

The coat of arms refers, top right, to the lower County of Katzenelnbogen , top left, to the Electorate of Trier . The lower field refers to the former free imperial city of Oberwesel .
