Being a student is a student song by Josef Buchhorn that deals with the peculiarities of student life ( youth , celebration , love , amicitia and vanitas ). The way comes from Otto Lob . The song is also known as the student anthem or Student when the violets are in bloom .

history

The text was written by Josef Buchhorn (1875–1954) in 1906. He was an old man of the gymnastics club Hohenstaufia Tübingen and at that time worked as an editor in Danzig. The song was one of his first literary works. In the era of National Socialism , another verse was written whose author is unknown. After the National Socialist seizure of power, Buchhorn was Gau official head for press and culture in Gau Kurmark and worked as a consultant in the Reich Chamber of Literature. In 1906, the text was set to music by the well-known composer for hour songs Otto Lob (1834–1908).

The poem consists of five stanzas with eight verses each . The meter corresponds to an iambic four-lifter , analogous to the vagante stanza . The rhyme form is cross rhymes .

In Catholic hourly connections, the fourth stanza is not sung. In the CV songbook, the first stanza is repeated as the fourth stanza at the end, the fourth and fifth stanza are omitted. As a parody of the fourth stanza, the following verses are also sung in Catholic associations:

Melody

The tune is in B flat major . The accompaniment takes place in the chords of B flat major, E flat major, F major, C7 and F7. The piece is notated in 4/4 time with a quarter note as a prelude . The rhythm is lively through numerous dots . Each stanza consists of ten verses, with the text of the ninth and tenth verses repeating the seventh and eighth verses. The verses are concluded alternately by an eighth and a quarter pause. Only the eighth verse leads directly to the ninth verse through the three-quarter note held . The notation of the Allgemeine Deutsche Kommersbuch specifies a ritardando for the eighth and tenth verse. The tied major second at the end of the seventh verse is characteristic of the melody .
