The blunt sedge ( Carex obtusata ) is a species of the genus Seggen ( Carex ) within the sour grass family (Cyperaceae).

description

The blunt sedge is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 5 to 5 centimeters. From the rhizome drive spurs , which are usually more than 2 cm long, and can surpass cm in extreme cases even five lengths. The lower leaves on the foothills are conspicuously black and red. The stem is thin, upright, clearly triangular, rough under the inflorescence and as long or slightly longer than the leaves. The leaves are about 1 to 1.5 mm wide, flat, and mostly smooth.

The flowering period extends from April to May. It has a single terminal spikelet up to 1.5 cm long . The hoses are almost always stunted and atypical. When well developed, they are 2.5 to 3.5 mm long, brown, intensely shiny and suddenly contracted into the short beak . There are three scars .

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 52.

Occurrence

Their main distribution area is in the temperate arctic areas of the northern hemisphere . Locations outside of Europe are known in Canada and the United States. In Europe there are even larger deposits in Sweden (including the island of Öland ) and in Russia . It is absent in Norway and Finland. In Central Europe, the blunt sedge is rightly considered a Nordic relic plant from the glaciation periods of the Ice Age . The blunt sedge is endangered in Central Europe . The blunt sedge reaches the most south-westerly point of its occurrence in Brandenburg .

The dull sedge thrives best on very loose, dry, fine sandy soils . It grows in loose grass .
