Architecture and history
The Stumpfsburg is possibly on the site of a fortification that already existed in the Middle Ages , which secured the transition over the Bode , which flows just a little further north . The basement and ashlar masonry of the house are likely to go back to previous buildings. In the interior of the building there were remains of a half-timbered house from the 16th century, in particular dewsticks and a carved column. The house was extensively renovated in the 18th century.
In 1999 the Wierling family acquired the house, which was in dire need of renovation, for DM 2,500. According to plans by the architect Hans Sturmat, the building was demolished by the Monument Preservation Workshops in 2002 and rebuilt for 300,000 euros with the help of subsidies. The four cellar vaults of the house could be preserved. Scrap wood was reused during the reconstruction. The old sandstone gate could also be secured.
