The Hour of Music is a series of classical concerts in Eilenburg with a tradition going back over sixty years. The city of Eilenburg was the organizer until the end of 2012. Since 2013 the organization has been in the hands of the Musikverein Eilenburg eV There are six dates per year.

history

The first "hour of music" took place on October 6, 1948 in the auditorium of the old teachers' college on Gustav-Raute-Straße. At the beginning mainly artists from the Eilenburg area appeared. Over the years, numerous well-known chamber and piano musicians have been engaged for the concert series . After the series took place for many years in the culture house of the chemical works , the council hall in the town hall Eilenburg ("town hall concerts") and for a short time the community center were used as an event location. The concerts have been taking place in the auditorium of the former grammar school since 1996. In 2008 the hour of music celebrated its 60th anniversary. The Dean of Studies of the University of Music and Theater "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig, Christoph Taubert , was won as patron for the festival year .

The organizers maintain contacts with the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig , the Leipzig Gewandhaus , the MDR Symphony Orchestra and, formerly, the German Chopin Society .

The Hour of Music sees itself as an event for the “care of classical music by great composers of different styles” with solo and chamber music performances. Nationally and internationally recognized artists can often be won for concerts. Anniversaries of great personalities in music history are taken into account in the respective annual program.
