Tobias Forster (* 1973 in Vilsbiburg ) is a German pianist and composer .

Tobias Forster grew up in Vilsbiburg ( Bavaria ) as the third of five children in a musical family environment. He is married to Susan Forster Vihernik, the granddaughter of the legendary GDR clown Fritz Karwath , has two children and lives with his family in Dresden .

Artistic career

He began playing the piano at the age of nine . His grandfather, the concert pianist Fritz Hübsch, taught him for a few years. At the age of sixteen he switched to the Bulgarian pianist Galina Vratcheva, who was then living in Munich. Tobias Forster studied jazz piano with Leonid Chizhik at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich for a year, before continuing to study at the Liszt School of Music Weimar . There he continued to study with Chizhik, but also completed classical piano studies with Thomas Steinhöfel. Ludwig Bätzel and Lasar Berman were also influential for Forster .

From 1999 to 2008 Tobias Forster worked as a pianist in the crossover ensemble Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion and the piano trio Klazzbrothers . Almost a thousand concerts with the Klazzbrothers have taken him to numerous countries and concert halls, among others. a. to the Semperoper Dresden , the Munich and Berlin Philharmonic , the Frankfurt Opera , the Wiener Musikverein and the Seoul Arts Center . There were appearances on radio and television as well as several awards, for example a German Jazz Award in gold and platinum format due to the high sales . Ten CD productions were recorded together. Pieces from these albums can be heard as film music in the Hollywood films " Collateral " and " Hitch - The Date Doctor ". In 2009 Tobias Forster ended his engagement with the Klazz Brothers and has been active as a soloist and composer ever since.

Forster's artistic focus is on solo concerts, in which he combines original works with his own compositions and improvisations. In addition, Tobias Forster also cooperates with players of other instruments, such as the oboe , jazz trio, brass , strings , big band and choir . Classical and jazz as well as their synthesis play an essential role in Forster's work. As a composer, he writes and arranges both short individual pieces and complex symphonies for large numbers.
