The Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues ( English Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues ) is an institution of the UN Economic and Social Council of the United Nations . It was established on the basis of resolution E / 2000 / INF / 2 / ADD.2 of the UN General Assembly and advises the Economic and Social Council on affairs of indigenous peoples . It is composed equally of eight government representatives and eight representatives of indigenous peoples selected according to regional proportions.
Originally the body was supposed to be called the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples , but this failed because of the dispute over the little 's' .
