Sue Gibson

Susan "Sue" Gibson (born 1952 in Derby , Derbyshire , England ; † July 27, 2016 ) was a British camerawoman .

Life

After a bachelor's degree in fine art photography from Newport College of Art, Sue Gibson attended the National Film School in London , where she graduated in 1981. She then worked as a camerawoman for commercials, which earned her considerations at the British Television Advertising Awards and at the Cannes Film Festival . Her camerawork for Hear My Song , directed by Peter Chelsom in 1990 and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival , was her first role in a feature film. For Hear My Song and her second feature film Secret Friends , which was released before Chelsom's film, Gibson received the 1993 Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Technical or Artistic Achievement . In 1997, she collaborated with the Dutch filmmaker Marleen Gorris on the Virginia Woolf film adaptation of Mrs. Dalloway , in which Vanessa Redgrave played the title role. In addition, Gibson was behind the camera several times for British and Irish television, for example in the multi-part television production The Forsyte Saga (2002) and the BBC series Spooks - In the sights of MI5 (2002-2003).

In films like Grasgeflüster (2000), Resident Evil (2002), Alien vs. Predator (2004) and Love Needs No Holidays (2006) she was employed over the years as a camerawoman in the second unit .

Gibson was a member of the British Society of Cinematographers (BSC) from 1992 , of which she was the first woman and of which she was President from 2008 to 2010.
