Koninklijk Coöperatie Cosun UA (Royal Cosun) is a Dutch company in the food industry, mainly active in the sugar , potatoes and spices sectors.
The company emerged from "Suiker Unie" (producer of granulated sugar ), which was renamed Cosun in 1996 . At the centenary, the company was given the title “royal” and the name was changed accordingly.
The head office is located in Breda (Netherlands).
In 2013, the group generated sales of 2.166 billion euros . In 2014, sales fell to 2.115 billion euros with around 3,800 employees.
Subsidiaries
The group includes Suiker Unie, Sensus , SVZ, Aviko and Nedalco .
- Suiker Unie processes sugar beets into sugar and sugar products. Suiker Unie emerged from the merger of cooperative sugar factories in Dinteloord , Roosendaal , Zevenbergen , Sas van Gent , Groningen and Puttershoek . Only the factories in Dinteloord and Groningen are still in operation. Since 2009, the company has also owned a sugar factory in Anklam in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
- Sensus produces inulin , which can replace sugar and fat in food. The raw material for this is chicory . There are companies in Rosendaal and Zwolle .
- SVZ produces frozen, concentrated and canned vegetable and fruit products .
- Aviko processes potatoes into french fries , potato slices, hash browns , croquettes and other products. The head office is in Steenderen.
- Unifine Food & Bake Ingredients produces flavors, toppings, fondants, compounds, creams, stocks, mousses, ice creams, decorative gels, fruit fillings, herbal mixes and baking mixes for the food industry as well as semi-finished products for the bakery sector . Brands include SUCREA , Caullet , Dethmers and Fruibel . In addition, Unifine produces a diabetic line called SUCREA DiaLine for pastries. Since 2009 Unifine has launched a sub-brand called ChefLine . This is used to market products aimed at the food service ( horeca ) market. Unifine supplies the Fine Bakery, Ice Cream, Food Service and Industry markets. In 2011 Royal Cosun sold the Unifine Food & Bake Ingredients Group to the American family company Dawn Foods .
- Royal Nedalco produces bio-ethanol from sugar beet molasses , sugar cane molasses and grain . The headquarters and a production facility are located in Bergen op Zoom, and another production facility is in Sas van Gent. Thejoint venture Brüggemann Alcohol existswith the German Brüggemann Group .
