Binnenmaas ( municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland . On January 1, 2019, it was merged with the municipalities of Cromstrijen , Korendijk , Oud-Beijerland and Strijen to form the new municipality of Hoeksche Waard .

The municipality forms the northeast of the island "Hoeksche Waard" and is not far from Dordrecht . It is located around an elongated, narrow lake, called “Binnenbedijkte Maas” or “Binnenmaas”. This lake was an arm of the Meuse until 1270 .
Many residents commute to work in Dordrecht or Rotterdam every day . Tourism and agriculture and horticulture are also important. There is also a large sugar factory in the community.

The municipalities of Binnenmaas, Cromstrijen , Korendijk , Oud-Beijerland and Strijen were merged into a new municipality with the name Hoeksche Waard on January 1st, 2019 .

Due to the merger on January 1, 2019, the elections for the council of the new Hoeksche Waard municipality took place on November 21, 2018.

André Borgdorff ( CDA ) has been the acting mayor of the municipality since 2007 . His colleagues include the alderman Arie Mol ( Gemeentebelangen Binnenmaas ), Henk van Etten (CDA), Leon van Noort ( VVD ) and the community secretary Rob Brekelmans .

Since the formerly independent municipality of 's-Gravendeel was incorporated into the municipality of Binnenmaas on January 1, 2007, the municipality has been divided into the following districts:

Partnerships
The community has a town partnership with the German community Mossautal in the Odenwald .
Attractions
Most of the villages in the parish have an old village church, mostly from the 15th, 16th or 17th centuries. There are also many monumental farms and some castle-like mansions from the 17th and 18th centuries. The municipality of Binnenmaas strongly promotes tourism. There are a few small recreational beaches and surfing opportunities.
The local history museum (Streekmuseum Hoekse Waard) in Heinenoord is located in an old manor house and a neighboring farm from the 17th century. The local museum shows the history of the region.
The small dykes in the polder are particularly suitable for a bike tour in early summer.
Personalities
Puttershoek is known throughout the Netherlands as the hometown of Kees Verkerk , who was one of the first Dutch to become world champion in speed skating in 1966 and 1967 . His father was the owner of the village pub. Bernardus Dirks Eerdmans became a Protestant theologian and politician. He was the son of a pastor who worked here.
