Life

In 1348 he was crown prince and in the same year after the abdication of his predecessor, Kaiser Kōmyō, Kaiser at the north court. Although Kōgon still ruled as monastery emperor, there was rivalry between Ashikaga Takauji and Ashikaga Tadayoshi . In 1351 Takauji allied again with the South Court and forced Emperor Suko to abdicate. The reunification of the imperial lineage was intended. However, this peace did not last long. In 1352 the southern dynasty vacated Kyoto and kidnapped the abdicated (north court) emperors Kōgon and Kōmyō as well as Sukō and the crown prince Naohito, the son of Kōgon. Therefore Takauji Kōgon's second son, the Imperial Prince Iyahito made emperor (first Fushimi-no-miya).

Upon his return to Kyoto in 1357, Emperor Suko’s son, Imperial Prince Yoshihito, began working with the Shogunate to be crowned prince. The Bakufu decided instead, however, to make Emperor Go-Kōgon's son (later Emperor Go-En'yū ) crown prince.

Emperor Suko died in 1398. 30 years later, in 1428, his great-grandson Hikohito ( 彦 仁 ) became Emperor Go-Hanazono as the adopted son of Emperor Go-Komatsu .
