At the beginning of April 1945, the first American tank appeared in what was then E.-Zunkel-Strasse (today Friedensstrasse) and was greeted by a resident with a white flag.

In 2011, a festival week was held to mark the 1225th anniversary of the town's existence.

Today the district has an area of 11.94 km² and 1,576 inhabitants.
