Susana Cristina Saíde da Costa (born September 22, 1984 in Setúbal ) is a Portuguese athlete . She specializes in the triple jump .
Athletic career
Susana Costa gained her first international experience in 2004 at the Ibero-American Championships in Huelva , where she finished sixth with 12.91 m. In 2006 she won the silver medal behind the Brazilian Tânia da Silva at the Jogos da Lusofonia in Macau with 12.46 m . The following year she took part in the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham , but was eliminated there with 13.43 m in the qualification. In 2012 she won the Ibero-American Championships in Barquisimeto with a width of 13.78 m and qualified for the European Championships in Helsinki , where 13.99 m was not enough for the finals. Also at the European Indoor Championships 2013 in Gothenburg she could not qualify for the final with 13.74 m.
In 2014 she made it into the final of the European Championships in Zurich , where she finished eighth with a width of 13.78 m. In 2015 she was eliminated from the European Indoor Championships with 13.78 m and the World Championships in Beijing without a valid distance in qualification . In her first Olympic participation in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro , she made it to the finals and finished ninth overall with 14.12 m. Before that, she was fifth at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 14.34 m. At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade in the following year, she took seventh place with a new personal best indoor distance of 13.99 m. She also reached the final at the World Championships in London , where she finished eleventh with 13.99 m. In 2018 she was fifth at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona with 13.81 m and eleventh at the European Championships in Berlin with 13.97 m. Then she won the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo with 13.76 m, the silver medal behind the Colombian Yosiris Urrutia .
In 2019, she finished fifth at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow with a distance and personal best of 13.43 m in the final.
In 2003, 2005 and 2006 as well as in 2018, Costa became Portuguese champion in the triple jump outdoors and in 2003 also in the long jump. In the hall she secured the triple jump titles from 2004 to 2008, 2011 and 2019.
