Susanne Schulz

Susanne Schulz (born May 23, 1963 in Kassel ) is a German director , dramaturge , author and general manager .

Life

Schulz studied from 1982 to 1988 at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen a . a. with Andrzej Wirth , George Tabori and Heiner Müller . After completing her studies, she worked with the independent group “Atelier” in Sopot (Poland) and in 1989, as festival director, set up the pilot project “theatrium - Young European Theater” in Menden .

As a dramaturge at the State Theater Eisenach, she worked from 1991 to 1993 in the fields of children and youth, drama and ballet.

From 1993 to 1996 she was acting dramaturge and director of the children's and youth theater at the Stadttheater Gießen and conceived and organized the children's and youth theater festival "Augen (n) blick mal!"

In the following years Schulz worked as chief dramaturge at the Landestheater Neustrelitz in the fields of music theater , drama , ballet / dance theater.

From 1999 Schulz u. a. Permanent lecturer at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and taught at the Konrad Wolf Academy for Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg. Further teaching assignments took her to the universities of Konstanz , Berlin and the Jagiellonian University in Krakow .

In 2002 she received her doctorate at the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main under Hans-Thies Lehmann . Her book “Die Figur im Theater Christoph Marthalers” appeared in the same year.

After four years as chief dramaturge at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau (2005–2009), Schulz became director of the Naumburg Theater . From 2011 Schulz was on the board of the German Stage Association , Regional Association East.

Schulz worked as a dramaturge in music theater - a. a. with the directors Johannes Felsenstein , Sebastian Baumgarten and Michael Schulz -, in drama, ballet and dance theater, in children's and youth theater, as festival director, theater pedagogue, author and as a lecturer.

Schulz has been artistic director at Theater Ansbach since the 2015/2016 season . She opened her first season with her production of Ferdinand Bruckner's "Elisabeth von England".
