Suttons Bay is a village in Leelanau County , Michigan . It is geographically within Suttons Bay Township .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the village has an area of 3.24 square kilometers, which consists entirely of land. The average altitude is 182 meters above sea level. Suttons Bay is located on the banks of the " Suttons Bay " of the same name , an arm of Lake Michigan . The place is located on the 45th parallel and therefore exactly in the middle between the equator and the North Pole.

climate
Suttons Bay is in the temperate climate zone and has high rainfall all year round. The annual average temperature is 7.2 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall averages 804 mm.
history
The village was named after one of the first European settlers to settle there, Harry C. Sutton. He settled there with a group of lumberjacks who felled the wood for the steamship. Since 1903 there has been a train stop for the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad . There were four churches already before 1900. In 1920, according to the elections, the county seat was to be moved from Leelanau County to the Village, but the move never took place.
In 1946 a cinema opened, the "Bay Theater". To date, it is the only one in Leelanau County. One of the oldest restaurants in the region has been in operation since 1871. It changed name and owner several times. Today it's called "The VI Grill".
economy
Most of the local shops are smaller shops and restaurants. Like most places in northern Michigan, Suttons Bay also relies on tourism. The "Suttons Bay Jazzfest" and the "Suttons Bay Art Festival" take place regularly. Cherry is also grown in the region. The harvest time falls from mid-July to early August. Another major industry is viticulture.
Infrastructure
There is a school in Suttons Bay whose mascot for the sports departments is a Viking. Hence the nickname "The Suttons Bay Northmen".
