Sven-Erik Hitzer (born October 7, 1962 in Cottbus ) is a Saxon-Thuringian entrepreneur and founder of the Leuchtenburg Foundation.

Live and act

After the fall of the Wall, he founded the travel and event agency Neuland Zeitreisen with a focus on staging medieval experiences. Since 1990 he has been running the castle gastronomy on the Leuchtenburg in Thuringia as a tenant and, at the same time, since 1995 the restoration of the Königstein Fortress . From 1993 he devoted himself to the tourist revitalization of Saxon Switzerland in the border village Schmilka with the expansion of the place into a bio and national park refuge . As managing director of Albergo GmbH, he runs an organic hotel, several guest houses, an organic brewery and an organic bakery. In December 2019, Sven-Erik Hitzer was elected deputy president of the European interest group Bio Hotels based in Nassereith .

Sven-Erik Hitzer is married and has one son.

Leuchtenburg Foundation

On March 9, 2007, Sven-Erik Hitzer set up the charitable foundation Leuchtenburg to give the Leuchtenburg, which was then put up for public auction, a perspective. From now on, Hitzer is the board of the foundation. The purpose of the foundation is to promote the Leuchtenburg monument in Seitenroda, to support its restoration and to revitalize the castle culturally. On October 4, 2007, the foundation acquired the Leuchtenburg from the Landesentwicklungsgesellschaft Thuringia and was able to significantly implement the foundation's goals in a multi-year renovation complex with the Porzellanwelten Leuchtenburg project.

Sven-Erik Hitzer has received several awards for his commitment. In particular, his efforts in the field of monument protection (e.g. renovation of the Biedermann mausoleum and for the voluntary work at the Leuchtenburg Foundation) were recognized in the expert group. His touristic successes have received multiple awards: In 2012, the Leuchtenburg was a place in the Land of Ideas , followed in 2013 by the Dresden Tourism Prize for the concept of the Advent market in front of the Frauenkirche . In 2014 Sven-Erik Hitzer received the Thuringian Tourism Prize for the Porzellanwelten Leuchtenburg , followed in 2015 by the Thuringian Energy Efficiency Prize and the MarketingAward “Lighthouse of the Tourism Industry”. In 2016, Hitzer was nominated for the European Museum Award 2016 in Tolosa with Porzellanwelten Leuchtenburg .

In 2018 the MarketingAward “Lighthouse of the Tourism Industry” for the state of Saxony went to Sven-Erik Hitzer again. His tourist pilot project to revitalize the off-season with the winter village Schmilka was honored. In the competition for the Thuringian Tourism Prize 2018, Sven-Erik Hitzer received first place in the Marketing and Cooperations category for his idea for the Thuringian Porcelain Day . For the new interior design of the Porcelain Church in Leuchtenburg in collaboration with Michael J. Brown from the NAU2 office, Sven-Erik Hitzer was awarded the Thuringian State Prize for Architecture and Urban Development in 2018. In the Iconic Award | Interior Architecture 2018 also received a high-level award for the design of the porcelain church. In 2019, the Leuchtenburg Foundation received the Chinese Tourists Welcome Award in Shanghai .
