Switchback - Merciless escape is an American thriller from the year 1997 by Jeb Stuart with Danny Glover , Jared Leto and Dennis Quaid in the lead roles.

FBI agent Frank LaCrosse and his men hunt a serial killer . When the latter kidnaps LaCrosse's son and also kills his nanny, the agent's case is withdrawn. He now begins to hunt down the murderer on his own. A murder case in a motel in Amarillo leads Frank LaCrosse on the trail of trucker Bob Goodall, who is driving through the United States with hitchhiker Lane Dixon. Dixon and Goodall become friends. In pursuing the two men, LaCrosse is assisted by Sheriff Buck Olmstead, who is about to be elected, and his people.
As the investigation progresses, suspicion of Dixon as a serial killer grows. LaCrosse is wanted by the FBI himself because he has repeatedly left another case without permission. He can put the two suspects on a train in the Rocky Mountains . It turns out that Bob Goodall is wanted. In the ensuing fight between those involved, Goodall falls from the speeding train and dies. LaCrosse thinks he has now lost his son. But Dixon remembers an address that Goodall mentioned. Frank LaCrosse finds his son in good health there.

Switchback had its cinema premiere on October 31, 1997 in the United States. In Germany, the film did not make it into the cinemas. The film is a co-production by Pacific Western , Paramount Pictures and Rysher Entertainment .
