structure

Every year a new team of committed students from the Westphalian Wilhelms University comes together to organize and run the business congress Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster. All design points are completely in the hands of the 38 team members. These determine the main topic of the upcoming congress, acquire sponsors and speakers and thus create the complete framework for the Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster.

The board of directors

The task of the board is to look after the team members. It is the concern of the board of directors to steer and coordinate the work of the thematic groups and departments in order to ensure productive cooperation. In addition to the exchange with the fourteen-member board of trustees, the main speakers are invited and supervised by the board.

The departments

In order to allow the Symposium Oeconomicum to take place, organizational preparation is of course required in addition to the content. This takes place in four different departments.

  • Finances: Without the generous support of our sponsors, it would not be possible for us to hold the symposium at this level. The finance department endeavors both to acquire sponsors and to support them.
  • Organization: The activities of the organization team include the fleet management, the reservation of rooms - both in the castle and for the overnight stays of the speakers - the organization of the evening before, the decoration and equipment of the conference rooms in the castle of the university as well as the catering on the day of the symposium .
  • Marketing: The marketing department is responsible for the external appearance of the symposium. Within a year, a uniform appearance will be developed in cooperation with an external graphic designer. This work includes, among other things, the creation of the concept booklet for the acquisition of speakers and sponsors, as well as drafts of the poster, the tickets, the folder and the production of our conference booklet. It is also responsible for actively shaping the relationship between the Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster and the public, as well as maintaining the blog. The organization of the InSOMnia parties and the after show party are among the other tasks of the department.
  • Strategy: The strategy team supports the symposians in the computer-aided implementation of the organization and rationalization of data processing and communication flow. An important task of the team is the planning, implementation and maintenance of the internet and intranet site. It also takes care of ticket sales and internal team events. In addition, the department is responsible for the evaluation of the Symposium Oeconomicum and supports the other teams with the organization and external presentation.

The topics

The majority of the team deals with the content of the Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster. For a year these team members work on the organization of six different topics, which are the focus of the event. The students first deal with the content of the respective topic. The result is a discussion concept that serves as the basis for the forums. Then it comes to the difficult and challenging task of acquiring speakers and moderators. Ultimately, six different topics are created, in which four speakers, a moderator and of course many interested students participate and discuss.

The evening event

Every year the so-called evening event takes place in advance of the actual business congress Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster. Well-known speakers will be invited to a selected topic, who will deal with the respective topic of the evening event in various lectures and discuss it sufficiently. Around 200 participants take part in this event interactively each year and thus enrich the event with detailed and interesting questions. The highlight of the evening event is the announcement of the main topic of the upcoming business congress Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster.

Opportunities to join

Due to the independent work of the team members in the organization and implementation of the business congress Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster, the special task is to find and select committed students who are ready to shape university life in their own way. Every year around half of the members of the former team leave and are replaced by new faces. Each participant can incorporate his or her individual ideas and ideas into the work of the Symposium Oeconomicum for two years, but then has to leave the team.

All students from all disciplines are welcome and asked for the selection of new participants in order to achieve a wide range of perspectives.

The prerequisite for participating in the Symposium Oeconomicum is the willingness to work with commitment and motivation for the Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster in the long term. For those interested, the Symposium Oeconomicum Muenster organizes an introductory evening every year after the congress.
