Szczyglice ( German Sieglitz ; 1937-45 Bismarckhöhe ) is a village in the Polish Voivodeship of Lower Silesia , which belongs to the rural community Głogów (Glogau) in the powiat Głogowski (district Glogau) .

Geographical location

The place is located on the south-eastern city limits of Głogów (Glogau) . Surrounding villages are the districts of Głogów, Osiedle Piastów Śląskich in the north and Krzepów in the northeast, Bytnik (Beuthnig) and Przedmoście (Priedemost) in the east, Grębocice (Gramschütz) in the southeast, Turów (Tauer) in the south, Jaczów (Jätschau) in the west and Ruszowice (Rauschwitz) in the north-west.

East of Szczyglice are the Droga wojewódzka 292 from Głogów (Glogau) to Ścinawa (Steinau an der Oder) and the Wrocław – Szczecin railway .

history

Szczyglice was first mentioned in 1345. In 1810 the village belonged to the collegiate monastery Glogau. During the Wars of Liberation , the meadows around Szczyglice were used as pasture to supply the French soldiers stationed there with beef .

After the First Silesian War , the village came to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1742 . There the place was from 1816 to 1945 in the district of Glogau in the administrative district of Liegnitz .

The village church of Szczyglice was built at the beginning of the 19th century as a chapel in the Gothic style . The church tower was added in 1920.

The German name of the place is Sieglitz . This place name was changed to Bismarckhöhe in 1937 in the course of Germanization at the time of National Socialism . After the demarcation of the border in the period after the Second World War , the place came to the Republic of Poland as Szczyglice . Between 1975 and 1998 the place belonged to the Legnica Voivodeship , after its dissolution as a result of a territorial reform, the place came to the Lower Silesian Voivodeship . In 1999, Szczyglice became part of the Głogów rural community in the Głogowski Powiat . The mayor of Szczyglice is Małgorzata Sadowska, and Renata Demeszuk represents the town in the Gmina Głogów municipal council.
