Szirák [ ˈsiraːk ] (German formerly Zirok ) is a municipality in Hungary in Nógrád County and is located at the foot of the Cserhát Mountains, about 90 km northeast of Budapest .
history
Szirák was first mentioned in writing in 1219, where a monastery of the Order of St. John stood there until the 14th century . Szirák's most famous sight, the baroque Teleki-Dégenfeld Castle, is located at the site of the monastery at that time . It was built by Tamás Királyfalvi Róth and completed in 1748. Through the marriage of his daughter Johanna with József Teleki, the castle passed into the possession of the Teleki family in 1762. A hotel has been located in the building since the 1980s, the "Hotel Kastély Szirák".
Others
In 1987 an interzonal tournament was organized in Szirák , in which the candidates for the world chess championship were determined.
