Təyyar Cümşüd oğlu Cəfərov ( Russian Таяр Джумшуд оглы Джафаров Tajar Dschumschud ogly Dschafarow , English transcription Tayyar Jumshud oglu Jafarov and Dzhafarov; * 18th July 1939 in Baku , AsSSR , USSR ) is a Azerbaijani physicist in the field of solid-state , semiconductor - and dielectric physics .

Life and accomplishments

Təyyar Cəfərov studied physics at the Institute of Physics of the Azerbaijan State University in Baku and graduated there in 1961. Then he was an aspirant at the Physikalisch-Technische Institut Joffe in Saint Petersburg , where he defended his dissertation in 1965 on the influence of internal and external electrical fields on diffusion in semiconductors. He then stayed at the Joffe Institute as a research assistant and later as a department head, where he obtained his doctorate in physical and mathematical sciences in 1974 on the influence of interatomic interaction and defect formation on diffusion in semiconductors.

In 1978 Cəfərov moved to the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the AsSSR as deputy director of the institute and head of the laboratory for solar and hydrogen energy. Between 1980 and 1993 he was teaching at the State Oil and Industry University in Baku. Between 1996 and 2005 he taught at the Karadeniz Technical University in Trabzon and the Yıldız Technical University in Istanbul , Turkey. He then returned to the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan as a senior research fellow and laboratory manager.

In 1989, Təyyar Cəfərov was elected a corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, and on June 30, 2014 he was appointed a real academician. In 1995 he was made honorary professor at the Istituto per la Ricerca di Base in Monteroduni , Molise , Italy , an offshoot of the American Institute for Basic Research (IBR) in Cambridge , Massachusetts and Palm Harbor , Florida.
