IC 5053 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sa in the constellation Peacock on southern sky . It is estimated to be 185 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter. Possibly it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with IC 5054 .
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 5048 , IC 5051 , IC 5060 .
The object was discovered on September 26, 1900 by the astronomer DeLisle Stewart and later listed by Johan Dreyer in his index catalog .
