TANS Perú (Transportes Aereos Nacionales de Selva) was a Peruvian airline based in Lima . It operated national scheduled flights and maintained a technical base at Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima. In January 2006 her operating license was revoked.

history

TANS - Transportes Aéreos Nacionales de la Selva was founded in 1964 by the Peruvian Air Force (Fuerza Aérea del Peru) as Transport Division 42 in Iquitos to develop connections in the eastern Amazon basin. Initially, Douglas C-47 , de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter 300 and Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter, some of which were equipped with floats, were available for this. In addition, helicopters such as MBB Bo 105 were also part of the fleet. More precise data are difficult to evaluate due to the military secrecy at the time.

In 1991 the fleet consisted of 5 PC-6, 5 Bo105 and 9 DHC-6-300. From May 1992 up to seven Harbin Yunshuji Y-12s from China, comparable to the de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter, were part of the TANS Perú fleet.

When the major Peruvian airlines Faucett and Aeroperú had to cease operations, the license for TANS was extended on January 20, 1998 and they moved their headquarters to the capital Lima. The army transferred a Fokker 28 and several Boeing 737-200s that were actually intended for them from Transport Division 8 to TANS.

In mid-January 2006, the Peruvian government revoked the state-owned airline's operating license due to safety concerns. This was preceded by an aircraft accident with fatalities on August 23, 2005 and two emergency situations with engine failures.
