Tame is a municipality ( municipality ) of the departments Arauca in Colombia at the transition between Andes and Llanos .

geography

Tame is located in Arauca, 187 km from Arauca , at an altitude of 340 m above sea level. NN . The municipality borders in the north on Fortul , in the east on Arauquita and Puerto Rondón , in the south on La Salina , Sácama and Hato Corozal in the Departamento de Casanare and in the west on Güicán and El Cocuy in the Departamento de Boyacá .

The municipality of Tame has 54,628 inhabitants, of which 20,549 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Various indigenous peoples lived in the area of today's Tame before the arrival of the Spaniards . The area was discovered for the Spaniards by Georg Hohermuth von Speyer . The Jesuits played an important role in the history of the entire department . Tame itself was founded in 1628 using a Giraras settlement as the basis.

economy

Tame's main industry is cattle production . Agriculture also plays an important role, as does the agricultural product processing industry . Tame has a regional airport.
