Tania Libertad de Souza Zúñiga (born October 24, 1952 in Zaña , Peru ) is a Peruvian-Mexican singer.

Libertad started performing at the age of five and took part in radio competitions at the age of seven. In 1967 she went to Lima, where she appeared on the radio and got a contract with RCA Victor . On television she directed the program Danzas y Canciones del Perú for five years . She has lived in Mexico since 1980 and is also a Mexican citizen. Concert tours have taken her all over Latin America, Europe and Africa. In her more than fifty-year career, she released more than forty albums and worked with musicians such as Silvio Rodríguez , Pablo Milanés , Mercedes Sosa , Joan Manuel Serrat , Alberto Cortez , León Gieco , Juan Carlos Baglietto , Chico Buarque , Gal Costa , Alfredo Zitarrosa , Cesária Évora , Vicente Fernández , Juan Gabriel , Miguel Bosé , Plácido Domingo , Armando Manzanero , Simón Díaz , Willie Colón , Tito Puente , Óscar Chávez , Ivan Lins , Riccardo Cocciante , Soledad Pastorutti , Marco Antonio Muñiz , Soledad Bravo , Amáliainal Rodrigues. , Susana Rolfo , Lucha Villa and the Chilean group Inti-Illimani .

Her repertoire includes ballads, Creole music, Afro-Peruvian music and music from the Nueva Trova , rancheras and boleros . Libertad was a UNESCO ambassador for peace and a cultural ambassador for the Secretaría General Iberoamericana , has received awards from the Peruvian and Brazilian governments and is an honorary citizen of Buenos Aires.
