Career
Kero spent his junior years between 2009 and 2011 with the Marquette Rangers in the North American Hockey League and the Fargo Force in the United States Hockey League . In the NAHL, the striker was the top scorer of the 2009/10 season and was therefore named Rookie of the Year . After his time with the juniors, the then 19-year-old enrolled at Michigan Technological University . There he spent the following four years until spring 2015. At the same time, he played for the university team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . During this time, the attacker was appointed to numerous selection teams that recognized both his sporting and study-oriented achievements. In particular, the 2014/15 season, which he finished as top scorer and later also WCHA Player of the Year, was particularly successful. He was also one of ten finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award .
After Kero was not considered in the previous NHL Entry Drafts , the Chicago Blackhawks from the National Hockey League secured the services of the free agent in April 2015 . The striker spent the remainder of the 2014-15 season with the Rockford IceHogs in the American Hockey League , where he scored five goals in six games. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , Kero was also part of the IceHogs squad, before he was called to the Chicago NHL squad for the first time at the end of October 2015 and made his debut. After a little more than a month, he returned to the AHL for the rest of the game year, where he stayed until the following December 2016. Only then did he return to the NHL for a second time and assert himself in the Blackhawks lineup. In the following two seasons, the American also shuttled between the NHL and AHL squads, before being handed over to the Vancouver Canucks in June 2018 in exchange for Michael Chaput after three years in the organization of the Blackhawks .
After a season in which he was used exclusively for the Utica Comets in the AHL, Kero joined the Dallas Stars as a free agent in July 2019 .
