The Tarangini ( German that glides over the waves ) is a sailing training ship of the Indian Navy . The prefix of the ship's name is INS and stands for Indian Naval Ship ( German Indian naval ship ).

General

The ship was designed by British yacht designer Colin Mudie and built at Goa Shipyard Limited in Vasco da Gama , India . The Tarangini ran on 1 December 1995 from the stack and was put into service on 11 November 1997th

The auxiliary sailor has a steel hull and is rigged as a three-masted barque. The sail area is given as 965 to 1035 m². Two marine diesel engines improve maneuverability and allow you to continue your journey even when there is no wind . The sea ​​endurance is 20 days.

Fourteen years after the Tarangini , the sister ship Sudarshini was put into service on January 27, 2012 .

The Tarangini belongs to the 1st school squadron and is stationed at the Kochi naval base . It is used on worldwide journeys for the nautical training of cadets . In 2003-2004, she was the first Indian warship to circumnavigate the world . On April 27, 2015, the Tarangini set out for an eight-month trip to Europe. During this voyage, the ship took part in the Hanse Sail Rostock , the Sail Bremerhaven and the Sail Amsterdam , among others .
