The Tatschnigteich is a body of water in the municipality of Liebenfels on the border with the municipality of Frauenstein in the Sankt Veit an der Glan district in Carinthia .

location

The pond is surrounded by coniferous forest in the Tatschniggraben in the Wimitz Mountains , away from settlements and paved roads, on the hiking trails that lead from Sörg to Schaumboden or from Sörg and Schaumboden to Lorenziberg . The pond has three small feeders that carry a total of about 4.5 liters of water per second. The pond is only up to 3 m deep; it has a larger, reed-covered shallow zone in the southwest, but otherwise also has some rocky, very steep bank areas. The catchment area is about 1 km². The only outflow is the Mühlbach (also called Tatschniggrabenbach ), which flows into the Glan .

Fish stocks

After the pond was drained in 1964, it was a pond in which there were only crucian carp (Carassius carassius) and brown trout (Salmo trutta f. Fario). In 1986, a new dam was built, and they sat carp (Cyprinos carpio), walleye (Stizostedion lucioperca), rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and tench (Tinca tinca) and as feeder fish roach (Rutilus rutilus), Rudd (Scardinius eurythrophthalmus), silver bream ( Blicca björkna) and perch (Perca fluviatilis). What is remarkable is the population of crucian carp, which in 1992 was rated as better than in any other Carinthian body of water.

use

The pond serves as a fishing water. It is also used as a bathing water in summer. In winter, due to its shady location, the pond often has a stable ice cover and is then used for ice skating and curling .
