history

Taunusrealschule Königstein

School building on the former Rothschild grounds (in the background on the left, the roof top of the Villa Rothschild)

During the Nassau period there was no higher school in Königstein. In 1890 a private rectorate school was founded. This was based in the Rothschild house on the extensive grounds of the Villa Rothschild, built in 1888 on Falkensteiner Strasse, where the school is now located. All classes up to and including lower secondary school were offered . In 1916 it was converted to the Taunusrealschule (up to Obertertia ). At the same time the merger with the girls' school "Taunusinstitut" took place. The “Taunus Institute” was opened in 1899 as a secondary school for girls. It was a boarding school that externals could also attend and in which 40 girls were taught at the top.

The Taunus Realschule moved in 1918 under the direction of Prof. Dr. Molinar moved to a new building on Klärchenweg. It comprised 5 classes and taught up to high school. Since no Latin was taught, the transition to secondary schools (the Höchst Realgymnasium) was difficult. The alternative, attending the Oberursel secondary school, was also complex.

Taunus School

The school 1945–1962, the “old school” on Klärchenweg in Königstein, taken from the castle

After the Second World War, the school was reopened. Head was Ernst Majer-Leonhard , who led the school to the 1957th Now the school had 7 classes and was run as a municipal high school.

In the 1950s, a dispute arose between town, district and country over who was responsible for the school. The School Costs Act of July 10, 1953 had determined the districts to be responsible for school. In the case of Königstein, however, in accordance with Section 29 of the law, the city remained responsible for it. The city of Königstein disagreed with the reference to the lack of administrative and financial strength. With a decree of August 28, 1958, however, the Ministry of Education confirmed the city's sponsorship of schools.

In 1957/58 534 students attended the school. Of these, 400 were boys and 134 were girls. 166 students came from Königstein, 121 from the Obertaunus district and the rest from other circles.

The increasing number of students made a new building necessary. This was built in the early 1960s at its current location, Falkensteiner Strasse. The city provided the property to the value of 370,000 DM, the construction costs of 3,200,000 DM and the school facilities of 320,000 DM were borne by the state (232,3000), the district (560,000) and the city (600,000). The new school offered 16 times more space than the old one and consisted of the main building with 18 classrooms, the special class building with specialist, administrative, common rooms and a gym. The inauguration took place (according to the festschrift) on September 22, 1962.

In 1970 the school administration passed from the city to the Hochtaunuskreis . In the 1970s, the SPD Hessen intensively established comprehensive schools . In the new building begun in 1972 by the architects Novotny & Mähnert, today ATP Frankfurt , which opened in 1974, secondary school, secondary school and high school up to 10th grade were brought together under one roof. Against the bitter resistance (the slogan was on the orange sticker: "Gymnasium must beiben") of large parts of the teaching staff and parents, the Taunus School also became an additive comprehensive school from the 1977/78 school year . The 5th and 6th grades were transformed into a " support level ", for the higher grades Hauptschule, Realschule and Gymnasial classes were formed. For this purpose, the school accepted the pupils from the Königstein Middle School and the Realschule.

Taunus Gymnasium and Friedrich Stoltze School

After the state elections in Hesse in 1987 , the CDU Hesse enforced "freedom of school", understood as the freedom to choose between the structured school system and comprehensive schools. In 1987 the first stage was abolished and replaced by entry classes from the three school branches. In 1994 the school decided to close the comprehensive school. In 1996, an independent secondary and secondary school was set up, which has been named after the poet and writer Friedrich Stoltze School since 1997 . The remaining grammar school was renamed from Taunusschule to Taunusgymnasium in 2006.

Pedagogical focus

According to the school program, the school has a mathematical, scientific and musical focus.
