Taypiplaya is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Taypiplaya is the central place of the canton Taypiplaya in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Caranavi in the province Caranavi . The municipality is located at an altitude of 808  m on the Río Taypiplaya , which flows downstream into the Río Caranavi , one of the tributaries to the Río Beni .

Taypiplaya located on the eastern edge of the Cordillera Real in the Bolivian Yungas , a transition region between the Andean highlands ( altiplano ) and the tropical lowlands of the Amazon - rainforest . Taypiplaya is located at a distance of 161 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the paved highway Ruta 3 leads via Cotapata past Coroico via Santa Bárbara , Challa , Choro and San Pedro to Chojña , and from there via Caranavi to Trinidad on the Río Mamoré . Nine kilometers behind Chojña, halfway to Caranavi, a dirt road turns right, which serpentines over the Voranden ridge east of the Río Coroico and after another fourteen kilometers reaches Taypiplaya .
