history
The Technical University of Zvolen sees its roots in the long forestry and forest science education of the Schemnitz Mining Academy founded by Maria Theresa of Austria on December 13, 1762 (after 1846 the Schemnitz Mining and Forestry Academy (today Banská Štiavnica )). Due to the political changes after the First World War , this academy was closed and until the end of the 1st Czechoslovak Republic , forestry courses were mainly taught at the Czech Technical University in Prague .
On April 25, 1946, the Slovak National Council decided to found an Agricultural University in Košice , which was dissolved in 1949 in favor of the Slovak Agricultural University in Nitra and the University in Zvolen. The actual year of foundation of the Technical University of Zvolen was 1952, then under the name of the Forestry and Wood Technology University of Zvolen . The university has had its current name since December 17, 1991.
