The Tempelstrasse 8 building (also known as Villa Eschbaum ) is a villa in the Gronau district of Bonn , which was built in 1901/02. It is located on Tempelstrasse, which branches off from Adenauerallee ( B 9 ), near the banks of the Rhine (Wilhelm-Spiritus-Ufer) opposite the entrance to the Foreign Office premises and belongs to the University Children's Hospital. The villa stands as a monument under monument protection .

The villa was built for the client J. A. Eschbaum based on a design by the Berlin architects Kayser & von Großheim , the local representative of which was the architect Heinrich Rings. In response to the building application from May 29, 1901, the building permit for the villa and an associated stable was granted on June 18, 1901 , followed by a supplementary permit for a wine cellar in July 1901 . By 1931 the villa had passed into the ownership of the manufacturer Otto Goertz , who also carried out his official business as consul of the Republic of China from there. By 1935 at the latest, Hypothekenbank Weimar became the new owner of the property, which now intended to convert the villa into a three-story house including the attic rooms, thereby commissioning the local architect and government master builder Julius Rolffs . The conversion took place after approval was granted in October 1935, while preserving the external appearance and also included the conversion of an oriel extension into a balcony.

During the Second World War , the villa and the associated stable / coach house were damaged by bombs, which were repaired after June 1945. Since 1958 at the latest, the property, like the neighboring Villa Tempelstrasse 10, has belonged to the property of the University Children's Clinic ( Center for Pediatrics ) adjoining its main building and also became the property of the University . It serves as the nursing home of the clinic.
