Terrano is a red wine that, like Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, is a variety of the Refosco variety . In the Italian region of Friuli Venezia Giulia will come of it in the local DOC range Carso (Karst) of the Terrano del Carso and in the Emilia-Romagna region of Cagnina di Romagna grapes. In Slovenia , in the Kras (Karst) growing area north of Trieste, the red wine Kras Teran PTP (formerly known as Kraski Teran) is produced, and in Croatia on the Istrian peninsula, Teran is produced.

The variety developed on the karst soils of the region in combination with the terra rossa soils that are often seen in the Mediterranean . The variety produces fruity wines with a deep dark red color, which is why they are called Sangue del Carso (Carser's blood) in Friuli . In the Slovenian Istria the variety Refošk is called , in the Slovenian Karst and in Croatia Teran . This distinction by name is quite important, since the Karst produces fuller wines than the coastal country.
