Terry Farrell (born November 19, 1963 in Cedar Rapids , Iowa ; actually Theresa Lee Farrell Grussendorf ) is an American actress and former model . She was best known for her roles as Jadzia Dax in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Reggie in the sitcom Becker .

life and career

Farrell grew up in Boston . In 1978, at the age of 15, she left her hometown in Iowa and became an exchange student in Mexico City . During this time she discovered her love for big cities, so soon afterwards she sent her photo to the Elite Model Agency in New York . Shortly after she turned 16, she was summoned to New York and two days later had an exclusive deal with Mademoiselle magazine .

After 18 months as a model for advertising photos, she began studying acting with Kate McGregor Stewart and began modeling on the side. Her first major roles she got 1984 in the short-lived television series Paper Dolls ( carousel of dolls ), in which she played a model and in the feature film Do it again, Dad (Back to School) with Rodney Dangerfield . In the spring of 1989 she continued her studies with Stella Adler and got some roles in series like Back to the Past (Quantum Leap) and The Bill Cosby Show . In 1992 she played the lead role in the film Hellraiser 3: Hell On Earth . In 1993, she was finally offered a leading role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine .

After playing her role as science officer Jadzia Dax (a symbiotic being) for six years, her character died a series death in the 1998 season finale because Farrell did not want to renew her contract for the final season (at least not on the terms that offered to her by the production team). Her role has been replaced by a new character named Ezri Dax , played by Nicole de Boer .

After leaving Deep Space Nine, Farrell landed the role of cafe owner Reggie on the television series Becker . She performed there for four years until the producers decided to replace her with Nancy Travis . In 2002 Farrell married actor Brian Baker (known in the US as an advertising character for the telecom group Sprint ), they have a son. The marriage was divorced in December 2015. In late 2016, Farrell announced that he was in a relationship with Adam Nimoy , son of Leonard Nimoy , who played Spock in Starship Enterprise . The couple married in San Francisco on March 26, 2018.

The asteroid (26734) Terryfarrell , discovered on April 23, 2001 by the Canadian astronomer William Kwong Yu Yeung , was named after her by the International Astronomical Union on March 28, 2002.
