The Teufelsbach , outdated Goldbeke , is a western and orographically left tributary of the Goldbach in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt ( Germany ).
Name meaning and history
The name is derived from the Old High German tiufal or the Middle High German tiuvel or tievel , which means devil. Why this part of the landscape was animated by the devil in popular belief is unknown.
Triton palmatus (pond newt) and Triton alpestris (mountain newt) were already colonized in 1892 .
course
The source of the devil Bach located east of Elbingeroder local part Hartenberg in the triangle of Hartenberg ( 516 m ), glasses Berg (about 500 m ) and the slope Krahenberg (about 490 m ) to about 490 m in height. After about 600 m of the river, the westernmost and highest-lying spring arm crosses under the district road 1347, which follows the strongly meandering stream course for about 5.5 km. From the beginning of the Dreck Valley (outdated: Dreckthal), at the end of the Gläsertal valley, a nameless tributary joins the southern arms of the source. This rises in the area of Leckwiese and Dornwiese in a common headwaters with an unnamed right-hand tributary of the Zillierbach that flows into the Voigtstieg . From here the brook has the name Teufelsbach.
The Teufelsbach follows the course of the dirt valley, in which the brook has cut a deep gorge in the sandstone . At the end of the valley the stream divides. While the left arm joins Heimburg after about 500 m , the right arm flows further east as Teufelsbach until it meets the Horstberg ( 275 m ) on the southern edge of Heimberg . The brook bends to the southwest. After another 300 m, the largest tributary, the Schmerlenbach, flows into the Teufelsbach. This squeezes between the Horstberg on the left and the Großer Probstberg ( 325.8 m ) and Kleinem Probstberg ( 239.7 m ) on the right. A little later the Teufelsbach flows into the Goldbach near Blankenburg a little north of the Mönchemühle Blankenburg .
