Théodore Girardet
Théodore-Octave Girardet (born September 22, 1861 in Versailles , † January 29, 1935 in Sainte-Maxime ) was a French draftsman, wood cutter and graphic artist.
Théodore Armand Girardet came from a Swiss Huguenot family of engravers and painters. His father Paul Girardet was an engraver. His brothers Jules , Eugène , Léon and Paul Armand and his sister Julia Antonine also became artists.
He studied painting at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Alexandre Cabanel , but then decided on woodcutting and entered the studio of Eugène Froment ; he was also a student of Auguste Trichon . He settled in Paris and specialized in his own studio in woodcut illustrations for newspapers and magazines such as Le Monde illustré , L'Illustration and Le Tour du Monde ; often as reproductions based on designs by his brother-in-law Eugène Burnand or other relatives. His studio was also active in the advertising industry, which led him to considerable wealth.
