Jules Girardet (born April 10, 1856 in Versailles , † January or February 1938 in Boulogne-Billancourt ) was a French painter and illustrator of Swiss origin.

Life

Girardet came from a Swiss Huguenot family; his father was the engraver Paul Girardet (1821-1893), his mother Louise-Alexandrine Sandoz. His brothers Léon , Eugène , Paul Armand and Théodore and his sister Julia also became engravers or painters.

Jules Girardet attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a student of Alexandre Cabanel . With the support of his teachers, Girardet was able to take part in some major exhibitions at the Salon de Paris , and in 1881 his works were also awarded prizes there. Eight years later he was able to show other works at the world exhibition in Paris and also won a silver medal there.

In 1892 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
