Théodule Armand Ribot (also Théodule A. Ribot) (born December 18, 1839 in Guingamp , Côtes-d'Armor , † December 9, 1916 in Paris ) was a French psychologist and philosopher .

Life

Ribot studied at the École normal supérieure in Paris and worked since 1865 as a professor of philosophy at various colleges. From 1872 he devoted himself in Paris to biological and physiological-psychological studies and founded the Revue philosophique in 1876 and the Society for Physiological Psychology in 1884.

In 1885 he was appointed associate professor of psychology at the Sorbonne and in 1888 full professor of comparative and experimental psychology at the Collège de France . From the end of 1906 he was a member of the academy.

Ribot has also made an outstanding contribution to the international networking of psychology - he hosted the first international congress for psychology in 1889 and again the fourth congress in 1900.
